What's Nearby?

Student life in Dundee is closely connected to the city centre and waterfront area. Unlike larger university cities where campuses and accommodation can feel spread out, Dundee’s compact layout means students can often walk between lectures, accommodation and social spaces in just a few minutes.

The University of Dundee and Abertay University are both located close to the city centre, making the surrounding areas popular with students throughout the academic year.

Students regularly spend time around:

  • Perth Road: one of Dundee’s best-known student areas, filled with cafés, pubs and independent restaurants

  • City Quay and the waterfront: popular for walks, cafés and views across the River Tay

  • The McManus and Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA): key cultural spots in the city

  • Magdalen Green: a popular green space for students during warmer months

Dundee also has a growing reputation for creativity and digital industries, helped by the city’s connection to gaming and design through Abertay University.
