Physical Health

It is important to take a break from studying and be more active! Your lifestyle can have a significant impact on your physical health. Making tiny changes to your lifestyle can drastically improve your health. Physical activity can improve your mental wellbeing. Being physically active means moving your body and working your muscles, for example, you can talk a 30-minute daily walk, go for a jog in the park, take up dancing with a friend, go to your local pool for a swim, do some yoga to relax or even do a bit of gardening in your spare time.

Being active releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good – in return this boosts your self-esteem and helps you concentrate on your work, plus it aids with sleep.

Here are some ideas to increase your daily activity and improve your Physical Health:

  • Walk to university rather than getting the bus
  • Join a sports team at university or a sports society to increase your active minutes and make new friends
  • Encourage your friends to come to the gym with you – having friends to chat to makes been fitter more fun
  • Ensure you’re getting a balanced diet to prevent low physical health
  • Drink more water so that you’re nice and hydrated throughout the day
  • Make sure you get at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night as tiredness can lead to falling behind

For some people it may be hard to be active, perhaps due to a mental or physical disability or even health condition. Take a look at the Get active with a disability page on the NHS website for more tips and advice.
