Known for its affinity to Robin Hood, Nottingham has two universities spread across its city; Nottingham University and Nottingham Trent University. As one of the largest cities in the UK, it comes as no surprise that Nottingham has a variety of popular student areas, due to their proximity to local amenities, closeness to a university, the cost of rent, and overall atmosphere.

This guide will explore the most popular student accommodation areas in Nottingham and compare their local amenities and places of interest.

What are the local amenities in Lenton?

Based just outside the city centre, Lenton was originally its own village, before becoming a part of Nottingham. Due to its proximity to Nottingham University, Lenton is a popular area for students and is largely a residential area.

The distances from Lenton to the different universities are below:

  • Nottingham University: 12-minute walk.

  • Nottingham Trent University: 27-minute walk.

  • Nottingham Train Station: 34-minute walk.

Although it is a further distance from the city centre compared to other popular student areas, there is Lenton tram stop to make travelling easier and quicker.

Supermarkets

Despite being a popular student location, there are no supermarkets in Lenton; however, there are some within walking distance. There is a Sainsbury’s Local that is a 10-minute walk, and a Tesco Express that is a 15-minute walk. For more cost-effective shopping, there is also a Lidl that is a 14-minute walk from Lenton.

Places of interest

When not studying, Lenton is close to certain attractions. There is the Marcus Garvey Centre, (a live music venue), and there is the Savoy Cinema that is a short 9-minute walk and is the only surviving pre-WW2 cinema in the city.

Although it is within walking distance to the University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus and Queen’s Medical Centre (which is one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe), Lenton may not be as convenient to live in if you are a Nottingham Trent student. However, Mansion Place, on Boston Street, is just over a 10-minute walk to Nottingham Trent University, located in the city centre and maybe more suitable.
